Windows 11 Faces Uphill Battle as Windows 10 Dominance Persists

As Microsoft continues to integrate AI into Windows 11 and prepares updates to comply with EU law, the latest figures from Statcounter reveal a challenging scenario for the tech giant. Contrary to expectations, Windows 10 maintains its market dominance, accounting for 67.42% of the market share in December 2023, compared to 67.95% in the same period the previous year. Despite efforts to boost Windows 11’s adoption, its market share only grew from 16.97% to 26.54% during the twelve-month timeframe. The challenge lies in hardware refresh issues, as stringent requirements hinder users from transitioning to Windows 11. Microsoft’s commitment to ending support for Windows 10 adds complexity, potentially contributing to the prolonged dominance of the older operating system. Looking ahead to 2024, the introduction of Windows 12 and compliance updates for EU law may not be sufficient to sway users away from Windows 10, signaling a persistent challenge for Microsoft.
